Quote of the Week...
"My doctrine is this, that if we see cruelty or wrong that we
have the power to stop, and do nothing, we make ourselves sharers
in the guilt."
- Anna Sewell
Mom's Perspective...
As a lawyer, I have an obligation to correct injustices in the world.  It is my professional
responsibility, and one that I take very seriously.  Knowledge that a child is receiving less
than appropriate education triggers my responsibility to rectify the situation.

I also feel a similar responsibility as a mother.  Most moms I know feel the same way.
We have been given the gift of special children.  With that gift, come a few secrets that
other moms may never learn.  One of those secrets involves compassion.  Because of the
road I have travelled with my children, I am a more compassionate and tolerant human
being.

This compassion permeates my view of the world.  I try to view each child in my life as
an exceptional individual, with strengths and weaknesses.  Whether I am entertaining my
children's friends, leading a Girl Scout meeting, or volunteering in my children's
classrooms...I try to teach others through my example.

We need to treat every child with love.  We need to understand that their differences are
what make them individuals.  We need to teach others to cherish the uniqueness among
children.  By setting a positive example for other parents, as well as children, we may be
preventing future intolerance, unfair judgments, and prejudices.
